First Experience with Jouer

Have any of you heard of Jouer? Up until a few weeks ago, I never did!

I tried to look it up online only to find out

1. It was sold in Sephora ages ago
2. There are extremely few reviews/swatches online
3. This seems like a bit obscure brand

It turns out, there is a Jouer counter in NY. I ventured all the way to Henri Bendel to discover in the smaller darker corner of the store the Jouer section. I encountered no sales assistant and left.
Let's keep in mind that I went to this counter 1 day before hearing it on youtube and twitter (damn) I should have stuck around and actually looked at something!

When beauty.com had a 20% coupon code, after a few minimal searches, I took a leap of faith and ordered a few Jouer products and I'm so glad I did!

An interesting thing about Jouer packaging which is deep brown, and feels reminiscent to Laura Mercier in packaging, are that the items clasp together. The products have side sections that clasp with other items from the brand.
While this is neat and all...I don't find myself clasping anything, and just keep everything separated. I don't know, seems wasted on me =P

Cute labeling on the packaging

Amaretto Eye shadow

The brand seems to sell very safe colors. Nothing too bright or scary. Amaretto is a shimmery taupe brown. It goes on much lighter than in the pan, and has a very pretty sheen. The color is not extraordinarily special, just one of those shadows you swipe on without thinking
( love collecting shades like these for some reason)
The pigmentation is buildable, and it blends very easily with a fluffy brush to create a very soft gradated brown shimmer effect which is great for work.

Granted, I say again this shade is not very special, but if you are the kind of girl who only has 1 shadow, 1 blush, 1 mascara, I think you should invest well into that "one" item and this would qualify as a purchase I would fully recommend

Of course I could not place an order without a blush or two ;)

Left-Right : Peach Bouquet, Blossom

Peach Bouquet: My favorite of the two. Both blushes contain very very very fine shimmer. You have to look pretty close to see it but this peach color brings immediate brightness to the face. An excellent color for work, especially those with warm undertones. It leans more towards a perfectly mid toned peach.

Blossom: A peachy pink, that leads a bit more peach than pink. Ratio being peach 55:45 pink
This color is very wearable, and said to be the favorite blush of MissGlamorazzi on Youtube.
On my skin when applied tends to look like a light coral.

Pigmentation and texture of both of these blushes are very good! The shape is a bit different from any blush I own, but I am loving having these in my collection, and am starting to reach for peach boquet on a more regular basis

All in all, in terms of what I think of the brand. I am quite impressed. I believe they should receive more recognition for their products and I will definitely go to the counter again to see their lip products which many people rave about.
The brand is a bit pricey, but I believe in investing in certain "go to" every day items.

Jouer to me in a nutshell is:
A few amazing staples =An Amazing face. You don't need a lot of products.
A few Jouer products I believe invested would be of great use to a person who is minimalistic in terms of collecting, but lovely additions to beauty junkies like me!
Wearable colors, excellent textures, chic packaging, makes this a brand I am now quite intrigued with.

Are you interested in anything from Jouer?

  1. They look very pretty! Is this brand considered a high end or middle ranged brand? I think I've seen these pop up a few times around blogger/youtube but not a lot.

  3. the blushes are absolutely gorgeous!!! i like their motto! This brand isn't available in UK i don't think.. first time I've heard and it looks pricey. Mind you Laira Mercier is pricey! it's much more affordable in the US!

  6. The blushes look so nice! I like my creme eyeshadow from them but was still kinda unimpressed with the formula. However, that doesn't stop me from wanting to try more from the brand! I think I'm drawn towards the simplistic and minimalistic approach :)

  7. woww~ I'm glad that the packaging is similar to LM's because I LOVE LM's. :P I like that Blossom color. That color is matte right? Since i have a bunch of sunspots, I realized that matte blushes look better on my skin.

so yeahh... hahah you got me interested in this brand~

  9. I love the packaging of these products: sleek and simple! Being that I wear neutrals 90% of the time, I should probably check this brand out. Great review and now you have me lemming for Jouer! :)

  10. I'm loving that peach blush! I'm on the fence about Jouer because, like you said, their colors are pretty safe. I've been buying a lot of brighter colors lately because I feel like I have more than enough neutral shadows. That said, I am intrigued by the packaging and I've also heard their lip products are great. I'm sure I'll give them a go at some point. =)

  13. Thanks so much for the swatches ! There's definitely very little reviews online on this brand. I've been wanting to buy Jouer for the longest time and couldn't decide between the blossom or peach bouquet blush! I just placed my order and ended up getting both :)
