NARS Lhasa Eye Shadow Flash Review

New from NARS Spring 2011, their new single eyeshadow in Lhasa

When I first saw photos of this shadow I thought " This must be mine" I thought it looked romantically smokey. I envisioned it as a sheer wash all over the lids and under the eyes with the edges all buffed out to soft nothings.

The color itself is quite neutral, but I do think it leans slightly cool on my skin tone (warm)

It looks like a soft mix of both heather and dove grey with a slight lavender undertone and loosely added soft silver shimmer. The shadow looks to have a very soft feel in terms of the shade.
The shade, is actually one of those interesting colors where depending on how you wear it, brings out a different hue.
As a sheer wash over the lids with a semi fluffy brush it looks more grey. The shimmer is understated and very barely visible when on the skin. When applied with more pressure such as the outer corner or under the eyes, the lavender, deeper purple side of the shade seems to reflect.

I tend to wear sheer all over washes on my lids, and I don't think a sheer wash of this is very flattering on my warm skin. I am going to keep experimenting with it and maybe try to make use of it's more purple traits.

I don't think I have another shade in my collection like this! I did try to pull out dupes and I had nothing. I think for that, it's quite a unique shade!

Right: Heavy swatch, Left: Sheered out

Like most NARS eye shadows the shadow is firmly packed and pressed, I experienced no fall out, and blending was a dream.
With a primer the shadow did last most of the day. ( Please keep in the mind the primer I am currently using does not let any shadows last all day. This is not the fault of the shadow, it is the primer)

The jury is still out on how much I enjoy this shade, I don't really pull off grey very well, but I am going to experiment with this further, because I do believe it's worth the effort and quite honestly this is one of the best unique neutral eye shadows I have seen in quite a while. I do like the fact that it can become almost a varying color upon application. I think that adds to the value of it's versatility

Have you tried NARS Lhasa? Your thoughts?

  5. i like how it appears to be different shades depending on how you blend it. i have a hard time making greys look good on me as well :/ honestly i wasn't swayed at all for this shadow even though a lot of people went crazy for it. it DOES look unique but i dont like how it has a lavender streak in it. but i havent tried it so i cant be officially knocking it, just going off first impressions.

  6. oh wow, loooooooooooooooove! I think it actually looks quite nice against the skintone of your hand, and it seems to pull more purple than grey. Have you tried Ashes to ashes? It seems like a slightly warmer (and not so grey) purpley counterpart

  7. u have some EYE!!!!! im not surprised lol I just pulled out my ashes to ashes and swatched it. Ashes to ashes is a bit more brown and warm, and Lhasa is more silver grey purple
When swatched side by side, Ashes to ashes almost looks brown and Lhasa looks pretty grey! this must be Ashes to Ashes' cool counter part!

  9. I like this a lot and I agree with Dovey, it seems to look nice against your skin in the swatch. Maybe try it with other shades to warm it up a bit. :)

  10. Lhasa was the reason I splurge on a bunch of Spring 2012 products. It's become one of my fav's. I love the colour! It looks amazing with your skin tone, I'm sure you pull it off well on the eyes as well.

  13. When I saw the promo pictures for this I was drooling.... I love taupes as much as the next makeup junkie XD This color looks really nice swatched on your skin! I think this is permanent so hopefully I have some time to get my hands on this :) I think my skin is pretty warm toned and browns and peachier shades tend to look better on me but I love cool toned makeup too :(

  14. I'm sure you'll be able to work this color into your make-up looks. Maybe mixing it with some warmer colors will do the trick? It really is a pretty color though!

  21. its a beautiful taupey grey shade! Reminds me of Remotely grey which I love from MAC! I have to purchase any eyeshadow palettes from NARS.. just their artiste palettes and blushes. May venture there in the future!
