March-ing Decisions

February was the blogging a day challenge
March is going to be the start of a new now challenge
I noticed patterns in my behavior and need to nip them in the bud.

I am announcing myself to be on a Lip Product Ban!

A bit like Gloss out, but lipsticks also (not lip balms) those I do not consider make up.

I have sooooooo many lipsticks and glosses in my collection still in their original boxes, so unused and unloved!
Lip products have to be my least favorite make up item but I get sucked in by the gorgeous color offerings on the market. *Damn*

Control is needed!

Yes, it's March. Yes I missed the first 2 months of 2012, but I still think no lip products for the next 10 months is still going to be difficult!

(And no I am not letting myself buy 100 lip balms!)
I am going to try to use up the ones I already have first! Sensibility kicking in

This is going to be a mini challenge to myself

Ok reading the above was a bit daunting…maybe for the rest of the year I will allow myself three lippies…does that seem fair?? I know it's a personal challenge but watch 1 color come out this year that is pretty much the most extraordinary pink, red, or peach I have EVER seen in my life time. ( I can see this happening…ugh)

In any attempt, this is my last "Huzzah" to lip products splurges

If you are going to give lip products up, might as well splurge on YSL and Dior before so, to make the fall less painful ;)

Do you guys set mini challenges to keep yourself in check?
I am thinking the three for the remainder of the year is fair ;)

  1. Good luck with your lip product ban! 3 lippies for the whole year is quite reasonable :D I'm doing a no-buy for as long as I can hold out (but the whole month of March is the minimum) so it'll be interesting to see how long before I cave. Can't wait to see what new goodies you picked up :D

  3. LOL! I love the lip ban decree, followed by imagery of brand new tempting lip products :)

I think my decree is that I don't buy things on the spot, I always have a wait period before I buy so I don't feel guilty about things afterward!

  4. oh i usually try to wait, try try try, research, reviews, but today omg the glossy lip stains were finally in and it was like...the angels sang! on the arm the swatches were opaque but trying them on, i said i dont need one, i need TWO!
HAHAHA though i have heard enough about these to know theyre good the price ouch
go big or go home!! in beauty blogging YSL and Dior are nice home runs!

  5. 3 a year is fair, and to cut yourself some slack don't include the lippies you may get from back to mac!
i have been feeling this way about my makeup collection too and have been on quite a severe ban.
I remind myself that I should be only putting fresh makeup on my skin, and to be religious about throwing away things past their supposed shelf-life whether or not they seem to have gone bad - this means the more i buy now the more i need to be throwing away at the same time. This perspective has really kept my spending in check:)

  6. yes, i just recently put myself on a don't buy if it's not essential ban. in other words, no clothes, shoes, makeup-- i'm trying to get use out of what is in my closet and makeup drawer to get rid of clutter in my life :) it's quite refreshing-- and I rediscovered many past loves!

  7. I set a little makeup ban late 2011 (it worked for like...1o days), I never join any challenge on blog since I know I won't be following any...

  8. I've put myself on a colour cosmetics ban for a whole year! Only allowing myself to buy staple items like foundation or mascaras. I've 30+ lippies sitting in their boxes too :( so depressing to see them unused. This post reminds me I need to go use them up! *grabs lippie and swipes some on right now*

  9. Good luck!! I'm on a blush ban until June. I think bans are a good way to get a little reality check about our addiction. And honestly, I don't feel like I've missed out on anything special by not buying blush since January. I'm quite enjoying what I have at the moment. Hope you will too!

  10. a lip ban? but what about the YSL lip tints??
so restricting.. I don't think I'd have the willpower for an all out ban. maybe a limit? say only 2 purchases from a new collection?
NARS spring collection is so up my alley...

  11. oOoOhhh this is going to be a super hard challenge - crossing my fingers and toes for you. i recently purchased my first house and (involuntarily) had to give up many of my 'extra' makeup purchases. i set myself a challenge, for every five products i finished, I allowed myself to purchase one new product. i thought i would *die* (little dramatic) but after a while i just became 'use to it'. good luck ... p.s. i think you should add two extra lipstick, for your birthday and christmas =)

  20. Ugh, I gotta ban myself too. I'm moving soon and keep thinking I have too much stuff to bring! I think my ban will transform into a "clean out my expired products" session instead. Those are always dangerous because I usually convince myself I need something else!

  21. i think cleaning out the make up closet is incredibly refreshing and w/e u keep u usually love to death!

  22. For me it's justifiable if it's on sale... lol Usually the ones I love never go on sale but I like to say it as a means to self cope :p Good luck w/your challenge. I know i'll be stopping by to see if you're hanging on :D

  23. Yes! I am on a $200 per month makeup/beauty budget. I don't count hygeine stuff, of course. I still feel spoiled even though I blow the $200 within the first week, so I'm thinking of going down to $150 next month! Good luck to you :)

  24. lol I can't resist playing with lippies but I have all the unopened mascaras you could need lol

  25. I've been moving around a lot between 2 countries and it's really hard to respect the weight limit in planes when you have so much make up that all you do is just carry with you, just in case you need them all (and you always end up using 3 products out of your million). So from now on, I decided to go on the project 10-pan. It's really hard, especially when you don't usually wear makeup every day. But good luck in your project, I believe in you!

  26. HAHA! I hope you enjoy them. Who are we to argue with singing angels? :)

  27. hahahaha thank you for your words of encouragement! i will be trying my best! :D

  28. omg! i had the goal of 150 dollars and i kept forgetting!!!!! i HAVE to really try harder to rem that!

    ReplyDelete
  29. thanks soooooo much! and yes I agree about the whole weight limit on planes then using the same three things...

  30. i didnt know you hoarded lip products! good challenge for yourself. lip products are definitely my least used, but im starting to get into lipstick all because of dolce vita! need more formulas and colors like it.

  31. I put myself on a self-imposed a beauty band. It was little hard at the beginning, but I realized that I just end up accumulating so much makeup and wasn't using it to its full ability. It just look like money wasted, if I wasn't using it. Plus I realized that I kept buying similar shades of lipsticks and eye shadows (I think I almost have every possible shade of gold or purple eyeshadow!). So far so good, didn't really fall off the band wagon yet. My next challenge is to band myself from purchasing clothing and shoes but its just so hard especially when the sales roll around. I always seem to find a reason to buy an item of clothing.

  32. I should put myself on a make-up ban as well. I spend waaaay too much money on beauty-related stuff. Sigh. I've been pretty obsessed with lip products lately too, and even though I know I have enough, I keep wanting to buy more.... I'm nuts, haha. In fact, I just picked up a YSL lipstick the other day too and I looove it so far!!

Good luck with your ban :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. haha no really hoard, but i only really use like 3 at a time so when i look back im like WHOA.. when did all that happen!!!
i love Dolce Vita!!!! my fave NARS lipstick, if you like Dolce Vita, i think you would also like NARS Gypsy which is a LIL bolder and a tiny bit more red

    ReplyDelete
  34. incredible goals!!!!! lord knows how much i have invested in these collections!! i need to start spreading bans in my life! bravo to u!

    ReplyDelete
  35. isnt the YSL lip stain AMAZING???? I knew i had to have it before the ban or i would have cheated day 1! haha
