The Laura Mercier Artist Eye Palette

A few weeks ago I shared a list of palette lemmings.
When the Sephora 10 percent VIB discount came, I decided to treat myself to one.
(Especially when I originally THOUGHT there would be no VIB sale this yr. so I guess this was what I had my main eyes for!)

Laura Mercier is a brand I am highly interested in.
True I took a nose dive with her foundations, but her blushes and lip products have proven to be winners for me. I have always wanted a handful of Laura Mercier shadow shades but never wanted the full pan.
When I saw all the colors on my wish listed were created into one palette from the lovely Laura, well I just had to snag this deal!

Laura has incorporated into this palette some of her best selling and most popular shades.
It seems many palette creators are understanding, women do like some matte shadows
( this one does at least!) so like the ever so popular Lorac Pro Palette, this palette hosts a row of shimmery, along with an equal row of matte shades (yay!)

The top row is made up of shimmer shades, and the bottom row are all matte.

When looking at reviews for this palette, someone described this as the N*ked Palette for adults, and I do see where they are coming from.
While the N*ked palette is nice, there are no where near enough mattes for my preference, along with the shimmer shades sometimes boarding along frosty.
For my daily office function, these colors seems far more suitable and softer for my role.

The actual packaging is quite well done.
Size wise this is smaller than the N*ked Palette but just as thick which is a very convenient and sturdy size.

The palette itself is encased in this plummy animal skin print, which is not loud and flashy as other brands may create. The top portion of the lid has a type of cushion embedded in it, so the shadows are quite protected and is also protecting the large mirror.

The palette also has a magnetic closure which is a nice touch.
I am quite satisfied with the size, as I find it perfect for travel, and if need be for everyday use, if numerous events are planned in a single day.
With the more elegant packaging, I am not brand flashing, and the overall packaging with the protected top cover eases my mind of potential cracking of the powders.

Now on to the swatches!
The swatches go from the top left corner going clockwise, starting from the matte row, and going to shimmer.
The texture of these shadows are nothing short of what I would expect from Laura Mercier.
Smooth in consistency, some to the point of butter, and the three matte liner like shades are incredibly pigmented and smooth.
The single shade that is not of the same quality as the others is the gorgeous African Violet, but is still smooth, but there is a tiny bit more fall out with this shade.
The rest are beautiful. The shimmery shades are not obnoxious shimmer, and the matte shades apply easily on the lids.
I only wish there was one shimmery sandy brown in there. Yes, I own several, but I am the kind of person who hates to be surrounded by numerous random pots of single shadows. If this had a shimmery sandy brown, I would have sang the praises of the perfect work palette.
Ok, I am being quite nit picky as I can easily mix some shades to reach a sandy brown, but outside that one request and the tiniest fallout from one shade out of 12, I can honestly say, this is quite a palette!

If you have never tried Laura Mercier shadows, or have been curious of her line, I think this would have a superb stepping stone into the brand.
The amount of matte to shimmery shades, the textures, and range of colors are all wonderful.
I think if you are a person who loves neutral make up or knows a neutral make up lover, this would make a wonderful addition to any collection, and a fabulous gift for the upcoming holiday season.

Do you have a favorite go to palette? or any Laura Mercier favorites?

  7. I LOVE this palette. I didn't like Naked or Naked 2 as much as I wanted to, but I found that I like this and the Lorac Pro palettes a lot more.

  8. I love my Tarte Femme Naturale palette. I think it has a good mix of mattes & shimmery shadows & they are all fairly neutral shades. :)

  10. we had this palette as a limited edition for Berlin Vogue's Fashion Night Out last September.. It was retailed for 55€..It's interesting to see how they introduced the palette with different names, because as long as I remember, they didn't name it the artist palette.. they only labelled it as limited edition for Berlin Vogue FNO.. but anyhow, this is a great palette and a good value for the price! My best friend got it for her bday gift and I didnt miss the opportunity to try it on too! :D

  16. I don't need any more eyeshadows, but I'm considering this palette.

Well.. I've been considering either this one or the LORAC Pro Palette. Has anyone here been able to swatch them side by side?

  17. Oh goodness. I wish I hadn't seen your post because I've got this palette on the brain.
The mattes look incredible, as do the first half of the shades in the shimmer row.
I wish this palette had come out when I first got into makeup!

  29. this palette looks amazing.. but I have neglected my urban decay one a long time ago.. imagined if I splurged on this one lol. The LM looks much weaarable for everyday than the UD though, less metallic - my kind of thing!

  30. I bought this palette based on your review. Absolutely love the African Violet. I like LM palette more than UD naked palette. The shades are just more subtle and versitile.
