Base Jumping!

It's a mighty strange thing for me, my new obsession, it's just not..ME, but I confess...
"I am currently totally obsessed and infatuated with make up bases."

I am so not a base person....foundation is something I wear like once every three to six months-it came to that point! ( Guess you can tell how many times I go to parties!)
Tinted moisturizers and BB creams were also started to become too much, I think because as my skin became more clear and I felt less of a need for products to ruin what was already going on that I was happy with but then...I dug out a foundation for a party and I fell in love (HARD) for it.

Weightless, longevity, perfect color match, natural looking- is this what I have been missing??
Well, you know how I am with beauty...I don't go crazy ( YEAH RIGHT!)
I have been diving deep now into the world of bases and have a nice set of samples on my desk being toyed with as I decide the ultimate winner to soon purchase.

Current Favorite bases which I am rotating between:

NARS Tinted Moisturizer in Alaska-Full review can be found here.
Jemma Kidd's Light as Air Foundation - Discontinued
Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation - will soon no longer be available for the updated "Manifinish" formula.

Current contenders to potentially enter my collection:

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

Laura Mercier - Silk Creme Foundation

SHOCKER! I would have never in a million years have picked this foundation for myself. High coverage and a thick creme is something I run from, but a baby pea size of this stuff with the right application looks AMAZING.
It actually does not feel as heavy as I had anticipated, and it isn't as high coverage as I imagined-shocked again. It's very high medium coverage and buildable. I imagine a tube will last me years.

Dr. Jart Water Fuse BB Cream

Dr. Jart+ - Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25 PA++

I've tried many BB creams but nothing from Dr Jart who seemed to have taken over the larger part of the higher end BB cream audience in Western markets. Is this one really worth the hype? One way to find out!

YSL Touche Eclat Foundation

Yves Saint Laurent - LE TEINT TOUCHE ÉCLAT Illuminating Foundation SPF 19

I've gone through a few samples of this and love the glowy finish. I heard it's very similar to Revlon's Nearly Naked, if so, I can save myself $40 bucks but having this on your vanity does feel special...
Has anyone tried both?

Armani Luminous Silk

I tried the ever so popular Maestro version by Armani but it's just not for me...the dry oil texture, I mean I JUST got on the liquid foundation boat...so I'm eyeing with the ongoing classic of the luminous silk formula. Hyped for years for looking flawless pretty much all the time, the lack of SPF is an added plus to me. This is not something for my daily routine, just night's out.

Now that my obsession is out in full force, please do share your favorite base products!
I'm on the hunt! ROAR!

  2. ohhhhhh actually i had been interested in that one too but my counter is always lacking my shade for even a swatch! glad to know you like it, i will keep my eyes peeled for it!

  3. Oooh I am a complete foundation junkie. I really love MUFE Mat Velvet +, Bobbi Brown foundations (I find that she has the best color match), and the Dior Forever Flawless Fusion Foundation. But I have my eye out on trying the Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Moisture Foundation, the new YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation and the Armani Luminous Silk.

The Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is also pretty good for a really light foundation a la Giorgio Armani Maestro - without the dry oil texture.

Foundation is like my beauty crack...I kind of wish they would stop coming out with these amazing new formulas so my poor wallet can have a break.

I am hoping that there will be a foundation post to follow up on any of these that you do pick up!

  4. WOW you must really know your foundations!!
I have a few more but all un opened bc i never use the stuff....which Bobbi Brown is your favorite, she has a few but nice color range. The Dior Forever looked good, i heard the corresponding powder is excellent, the Dior nude also looked great!

yeah, the industry is getting better and better with their foundations, i can see how u can get sucked in! the new formulas are all amazing, well they claim.

If i get something ill try to review it if there is enough interest ^^
Glad to have learned something abt you :)

  5. I practically never leave the house without a base, I use to find that tinted moisturizer did not provide enough coverage ( i find that I don't have the smoothest skin, and i have huge pores), but I'm really loving the laura mercier tinted moisturizer as well as their foundation base. I've been curious to try the nars one but I'm not convinced because of my experience with the Nars sheer glow foundation. I completely agree with you with the Armani foundation. Don't love the texture of the Maestro, prefer the luminous silk one. I really love the Shu Uemura face architecture foundation. But it may be a little hard to get your hands on I think it's only available online in the US.

  6. really? If i wore foundation i felt like it must have been a very special day for me to pull it out! LOL
ahh which LM Tm formula do you prefer? I had the oil free years ago. Did you not like NARS Sheer Glow, I actually loved that foundation but sold it in a blog sale bc my skin looked airbrushed with it on! it freaked me out! im not used to my skin being so...DONE so i sold it T.T

ahhh glad to hear i was not alone on the maestro! that Shu foundation is famous! i hear faves abt it everywhere! i really want to try the Shu light bulb? it's like their version of the beauty blender!

  7. May I ask how you apply the LM Silk Creme Foundation? I'm not sure if it's my technique or what but I just cannot seem to make this stuff look good on my skin and it only looks worse and more cakey as it wears, yikes.

My favorite bases are: Givenchy Photoperfexion, NARS Sheer Glow, Lancome Teint Miracle, and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. As an oily-skinned gal I really need something that will stay put and stay looking natural. I also have the JK Light As Air but is it just me or is it not waterproof at all? I think I cried once while wearing it and it ran down my face and stained my shirt... haha.

  8. i love the kgd aqua foundation. their new aqua foundation is supposed to be even better! I found revlon nearly naked to be ok, but it had less coverage and not as nice finish as the koh gen do. I quite like the armani luminous silk! I love Nars Tinted Moisturizer too. those are totally my top 3 bases i think! i have really liked lancome teint miracle and guerlain parure aqua in the past. and i quite liked bobbi brown long wear even finish but i hated the lavender scent

  9. Hahaha I only know anything about foundations because in my quest to find THE perfect foundation (I don't think one actually exists...), I have tried a lot. Plus, for some reason, I just love foundation and it's one makeup product that I go through pretty regularly. :)
The Bobbi one that I like is the long wear even finish foundation. It just works for me...I don't have to worry about it changing colors on my face or breaking me out. It's just a very good, basic foundation. I think her foundations are so great because they are very yellow based, which I find to be the most flattering on my skin tone.
I definitely look forward to any future posts you might make about foundations - it's one of my favorite subjects! Happy hunting :)

  10. Oooh oooh ooh!! Okay, here's my experience with three of your new contenders. :)

Laura Mercier Silk Creme - Amazing coverage and powdery finish BUT it is not good for dry patches at all. Not sure it's the best for winter.

YSL Touche Eclat - SUPER super dewy! I like it but it gets shiny pretty fast.

Armani Silk - It doesn't have my shade and oxidized pretty badly! Make sure to test first.

  11. I've applied the foundation with a sponge in the store and at home I have been using the Sigma F84, i blv it's recommended to use a damp sponge like a beauty blender but i have yet to try that method.
Every time i apply it i remind myself how pigmented it is and apply a tiny droplet first, its easier to add than take away. Also, my skin is really hydrated from my moisutirzer, whenever my skin has had it's misturizer applied for a while ( 10+min) i don't blv most foundations I have tried don't applied as well, I go for like 1 minute after! LOL the more hydrated and moist the base, the easier it spreads i blv.

Ohhhh sorry to hear abt the Jemma Kidd....I don't blv i ever cried it in but wore in days past 85 degrees and it seemed ok.. then again i attempt to run from 1 air conditioned room to another! Thanks for sharing your favorites! NARS SG is one of my faves too!
Chanel VLA did not work on me :( i looked like i painted canola oil on my face in like 3 hours :\

  12. ohhhhhhhhh nice to know all the facts about the revlon!
Armani luminous silk seems like a good once since u like the KGD and NARS like myself so much.
    i never tried guerlain foundations...should i?
I never tried Bobbi Brown either! wow i have alot of catching up to do!

  13. WOW girl you know your foundations!
I got to take all the notes you wrote and put it on my phone, yikes about the armani!! i best try that on in the store!! did you notice it oxidized right away or took like half a day?
    thanks for all the tips!

    ReplyDelete
  14. :) glad it helped. I would say probably skip it and put the dollars towards one of the others! I think guerlain foundations have a nice finish and varying levels of coverage, but the scent is a bit strong and not for everyone. also i think sometimes color matches are a bit tough, at least for me. I think the bobbi brown is a more affordable option and somewhere in between kgd and luminous silk for coverage?

  15. I also tried the LM SC with a Beauty Blender today, it's still nice. Coverage was still even and looked very natural. :)

  16. Oh man. I'm not sure! I have only tried out a few foundations and all of them have something that I have to WORK with or change. Revlon Naked is terrible for my oily skin but I love love the finish and coverage. Lancome Teint Idole has great longevity and controls oil really well but it so matte and full coverage that I have to mix things in with it to make it work. YSL Teint Resist is discontinued. I love KGD Aqua but that price is such a bitch haha. And the oil control isn't the best. I'm still on the hunt too! I'm curious about LM Creme Silk now...

  17. The Armani looked flawless at the store but I noticed after 4 hours or so while at a different venue! But that was when I was super oily and a friend with less oilier skin loved it to death. I traded it in for a different shade but that one oxidized too so I think it's definitely the formula + skin type.

  18. oh wow!!! i will def get a sample in the store next week then! dont want to spend 60 bucks to look orange in december!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Me too I want to try the Shu light bulb. I'm intrigued by it. I like the regular LM TM, my friend had a bad experience with the oil free version, so I'm kinda of hesitant in trying it.

  20. the oil free one broke me out! so i was scared to try the reg one with oil! LOL
